We are pleased to announce the successful publication of the March 2026 issue of the Journal of Sinographic Philology (JOSPL), which also marks the first anniversary of the journal’s founding: https://jospl.org/newsletter/TOCAlert.php.
Over the past year, JOSPL has established itself as a platform for innovative scholarship in Sinographic philology, publishing nearly thirty articles by scholars from Korea and across Asia, Europe, and the United States. These contributions span a wide range of themes, reflecting our commitment to fostering an international and interdisciplinary scholarly community. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you for your invaluable support. I would also like to extend special thanks to Felix Sigmund, who served as guest editor for the March issue, for his exceptional support throughout the preparation of the issue, including his prompt communication and his work in writing the introductory essay.
The present March issue is devoted to the theme of hanmun teaching. The articles explore pedagogical approaches to Literary Sinitic across diverse contexts, addressing both practical and theoretical questions. Together, they highlight the evolving role of hanmun in research and education and underscore its continued relevance in East Asian and comparative literary studies.
We are also introducing a revised editorial format beginning with this issue. JOSPL will increasingly feature guest editors who will take the lead in curating individual issues, allowing for more focused thematic clusters and deeper engagement with emerging directions in the field. Upcoming issues are already in preparation and will address themes such as Sinographs, Literary Sinitic education, and Russian scholarship on Korean Sinography and hanmun, along with potential special sections on digital humanities and selected conference proceedings.
We continue to welcome submissions on a rolling basis from scholars worldwide working on the intellectual, literary, religious, and cultural traditions of the Sinographic world. We especially encourage comparative and cross-disciplinary work that rethinks established boundaries and opens new avenues of inquiry.
We hope JOSPL will serve as a valuable venue for your research, and we look forward to your future contributions.
